Description
Gain experience you can't get anywhere else while you help people who are experiencing some form of personal crisis--from a bad day to a broken heart to a traumatic loss or depressive illness. Volunteer on Samaritans 24-hour crisis response hotline and provide emotional support to those who feel depressed, in crisis or suicidal and need someone to talk to. The work is challenging, the training intensive and the experience rewarding! And you'll gain experience that can help you get into grad school, make a career change or simply grow more yourself! Samaritans hotline volunteers develop personal and professional skills that have helped them land jobs in the public and private sector (mental health, public health, education, etc.) as well as get into some of the most respected social work, psychology and other related graduate programs in the country (NYU, Columbia, Hunter, Princeton, Berkeley, etc.) We are currently seeking volunteers who can donate one morning afternoon, evening or weekend shift a week and one overnight shift a month. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, have good listening and communication skills, and be able to make a six-month commitment after training. No experience necessary.
Samaritans is currently accepting applicants for our 2020 Hotline Training Class. If you are interested in becoming a Samaritans volunteer, please contact us to attend the upcoming orientations.

Samaritans greatest priority at this time is to find qualified applicants who are available to work weekday mornings or afternoons. Those applicants will receive preferential treatment.
To apply, please email your full name, residential street address , your phone number and your e-mail address to newvolunteer@samaritansnyc.org or call 212-673-3041 to receive a Volunteer Information Packet by mail.
We look forward to hearing from you!
